Satellite pic of a smoky, burning California →
I was wondering why we’ve had an asthma/migraine-inducing smoke-white sky, amber sunlight, and horrid haze the last few days…now I know why.

"Intelligence comes in all sizes & shapes" →
A Cal student with a weekly column in the campus paper describes his clearly autistic little brother with affection, amusement, respect, understanding, and awareness of the kid’s emotions & humanity.

Depressed. Misread the calendar so I said "Apr 1st, next week" to Dr's vmail, and mother's being extra difficult/childish.
Upset I can't bring B in for xrays (no $), already fear mistakes & being attacked so vet reception telling me off Did Not Help! Today sucks!
Sorry about the repost, HelloTXT.com did it when setting up Fbook app. Bah, crappy day so far.
It's a shame being a self-centered childish PITA doesn't pay as a career, my mother would have been rich long ago…

Down syndrome girl has cosmetic operation to 'fit... →
Do these parents seriously think that people won’t somehow notice her other differences, or that if they do, it’s going to be helpful for them to be frustrated/angry with the girl when she can’t act/behave/learn 100% like a non-DS person? Or less careful to keep a bit of an eye out for her so someone noticing her impairment can’t as easily take advantage of or sexually...
"Waterloo Road" Season 3, episode 20: AS kid in... →
I’m watching this at the moment — first time I’ve seen the AS character Karla, and I was fairly surprised that they handled it that well. I would have been happier if they’d said “she is autistic, it doesn’t affect her intelligence” rather than “she has Asperger’s” but she wasn’t wildly stereotyped, and the so-called “social...
CSU East Bay teacher fired over loyalty oath gets... →
I had been quite disturbed over this recent controversial situation, so I am happy to see that it has been rectified: “A Cal State East Bay math teacher and practicing Quaker who was fired for refusing to sign a state-required loyalty oath got her job back this week with an apology from the university and a clarification that the oath does not require employees to take up arms in violation...

Blech, I want to go to bed...
Bleargh. I haven’t gone to bed yet…. I need to call the county clerk to let them know that I can’t do the election after all — and at the last minute, that is not going to be fun. All that after sitting through that long training session, too… :-p Hmm. I wonder what’s up with “this can be seen by” only having two options, “me” and...

There goes one of my pseudonyms...damn.
I just posted an anti-AutismSpeaks manifesto complete with links, to a site where I usually hang out under a pseudonym, since the site’s not disability-related. So much for that nice relaxing approach, at least under that name. I’ll be afraid to go back now. >:-p Worse, I stayed up until after 5am doing it, so I’ll feel crappy for the third day in a row — now Bastian...
unix/gnome-like software for the *what*!? →
This has to be the “WTF!?” of the *week* — someone seriously took the time to create a “unix-like software package” for a computer that came out in 1988? (Not that I should talk; I’m the one hunting down and downloading software to try out!)

OK, it's not a browser problem...
I just tried Opera, and got the same result, but doing it again showed me something interesting… I was able to make changes for different parts & colors each time, but after the third or fourth change, all of the subsequent ones became variants of the last successful color. So if I did Content Background gray, Header Background Blue, Title Green, then no matter what I chose next, even...
Reminder to self: make a new userpic/avatar...
In response to two “my thing is better than yours nyah nyah!!!” things I’ve run across lately, I’ve decided: I need to make an “anti-fanboy/fangirl” image. Possibly one involving cartoonish suggestions of violence. :-p (I don’t mean general “woo hoo, this is cool” fans, to be clear. I’m talking about the rabid irrational sort that sounds...
Hey, "browser agnostic" isn't supposed to mean...
Weird… After years of sites working just fine in Firefox, I’m finding myself forced to use Maxthon in order to see previews while customizing my new little Tumblr site. For some reason the “colors” part of the preview is malfunctioning: no matter what color I pick for a particular area, some other related shade comes up. I don’t think it’s even in the sense of...
Is Jaiku going to beat out Twitter? →
I’ve noticed that like Gmail, since Blogger was bought out by Google, it has become the most popular of its kind. Well, they just bought Jaiku, a micro-blog site (like Twitter) — if they integrate it with iGoogle & Blogger, will it perhaps win too?
Money Tales From The Great Depression →
Perspectives on the USA’s current economic mess from four people that grew up during the Great Depression… I found it really interesting was that they believe both in looking after oneself to whatever extent one can, and in having a government/social safety net. (Which I agree with; I have to wonder why most people’s attitudes these days are so different, even if they’ve...
